David Pinard and Lorraine Sanfaçon (The Spoke Pack)
Pedals, Packs & Paws: Family bikepacking Tales
Lorraine and David met in Kuujjuaq, northern Quebec, and share a deep love for adventure. They discovered bikepacking 10 years ago and have since explored trails across Canada with their three children (ages 9, 11, and 13), including Le P’tit Train du Nord, La Véloroute des Bleuets, La Véloroute des Draveurs, and the Confederation Trail in PEI.

Lorraine and David met in Kuujjuaq, northern Quebec, and share a deep love for adventure. Beyond family trips, they’ve tackled longer routes as a duo—such as the GAP & C&O, the Buttertart 700, and multiple routes in the Eastern Townships—bringing those lessons back into their family adventures. Together, they also completed a 400 km loop combining the PPJ and the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail.
They are the creators of an 800-kilometer loop in Abitibi-Témiscamingue called the OAT, blending route finding with family fun. Lorraine’s passion for photography and David’s filmmaking bring their journeys to life, inspiring families to explore the world on two wheels—sometimes with a husky in tow.
Fun Facts
- We set the tone for our adventures early—after just two weeks of dating, we headed to Mongolia for our first trip together, where Lorraine brought David into the desert… despite the fact that he absolutely hates the sun.
- We dream of completing the Tour Divide with the kids and the dog one day-they just don’t know it yet!
- We coined a new expression during the Butter Tart 700: ‘’Suck it up, butter tart!’’- the perfect mantra for long rides.
